How we started Written by Constantia Petrou, our founder and CEO

A personal mission

It all started when my father broke his spine. We were devastated, confused, and exhausted. Clarity on what to do and where to go brought us hope. But it took months of trial and error to get that clarity.

It was ironic. I spent my professional life in healthcare. But when I found myself on the patient side...the information I had known did not translate to answers. On the patient side, I felt stuck: Noise of general information and very little time with our doctors.

I wanted to spare this gridlock for other patients and families.

A husband & wife team

My husband supported me through the emotional upheaval of my dad's condition. Like me, he also spent his career in healthcare. So we merged the emotional and the professional to start Konnectology.

He adds his 15 years of work improving patient access to medical technologies to my 15 years of experience in medical research and public health.

We have been working on Konnectology for the past 5 years to solve the information gridlock patients and families face.

Patient reach and the National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding

We started personal. But would other patients care? We asked patients and families like you. We showed them a small version of Konnectology. They liked it. So we continued.

A year later the National Institutes of Health (NIH) with their group of experts funded research and development of the first Konnectology guides.

We started with kidney transplantation.

Now, a diverse team of healthcare professionals, patients, and web technology experts continuously develop and support a collection of treatment guides.

Technology you can trust, language you can understand

We believe that to talk with your doctor effectively you need the same quality facts that healthcare professionals have minus the jargon.

We also believe that this information should be something that both you and your doctors can trust.

So our methodology is not a secret. We put it through the rigor of medical review and publish it in professional journals.

At the same time, we take the results from that methodology and put them in the context relevant to you: information and tools to get your doctor's help at every step to your treatment.
